Kentucky Derby Time!

Let's talk Derby It's the most famous horse race in the world. It takes place at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky on the first Saturday in May (this year it is May 6th). It is THE event of the year if you are a Kentuckian, like me, everyone celebrates it in one form or another. Well, at our house in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, we have started getting the beautiful and unmistakable luna moths arriving!! We got our first luna moth (Actias luna) about a week and a half ago. It was still getting pretty cold at night and this little guy was pretty cold in the morning so he let me gently pick him up and get a selfie with him! You have to be careful so you don't remove any of the scales on...

Life Cycle Soap, Easter and Spring Gifts!

One of my absolute favorite insects is the stag beetle (Lucanidae). They are just so ornate and goofy looking. It also helps that in different parts of the world they video them battling one another!   I love how there is a moderator over the match! I also love that the winner just has to throw the loser off the stage!   Well these are just a few of the reasons that we have made the stag beetle as our life cycle soap! Just a few of the cool things you can learn from these life cycle bars of soap are that females actually lay an egg ball filled with microorganisms for the larvae to eat so they can digest...
